Marine, Climate and Sustainability Research in Hamburg

The High-Tech Agenda Germany defines the protection and preservation of our environment as a shared responsibility. Innovations for the sustainable use of land and marine areas, for climate protection and climate adaptation, and for a clean and reliable energy supply form the foundation for maintaining our prosperity and help us overcome geostrategic challenges.

The PIER PLUS profile PIER Climate and Coast brings together researchers from the University of Hamburg, Hereon, GIGA, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, and the Technical University of Hamburg who conduct research in this field. In addition, the University of Hamburg’s CLICCS Cluster of Excellence is designed to foster close collaboration and brings together experts from numerous research institutions in the metropolitan region.

Fraunhofer Research Institution for Additive Manufacturing Technologies IAPT

Currently, additive manufacturing using recycled raw materials often results in scrap or requires significant post-processing effort. A research project on profitability and recycling aims to develop recycled materials for the industrial 3D printing of high-quality components.

University of Hamburg

To address the challenges of climate change, the University of Hamburg is consolidating its research under the Core Research Area Climate, Earth and Environment. The Earth and Society Research Hub (ESRAH) investigates how humans are altering the Earth system, how change can be shaped, resilience strengthened, and resources used sustainably. Based here is the Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS), which investigates which climate futures are plausible and feasible. Through its twin transformation toward digitalization and sustainability, the University of Hamburg is committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in research, teaching, and administration.
