Civil aviation remains a rapidly growing high-tech industry, while the space sector is showing an increasing trend toward commercialization.

In Hamburg, the Center of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL)—in collaboration with the University of Hamburg, Hamburg University of Technology, HAW Hamburg, and Helmut Schmidt University/University of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg—plays a key role in this field.

Fraunhofer Research Institution for Additive Manufacturing Technologies IAPT

Additive manufacturing can reduce the enormous amount of material waste generated by metal production for the aerospace industry, but currently requires extensive testing. Further development of non-destructive testing as part of the META project aims to reduce the demand for raw materials, energy, and chemicals used in the additive manufacturing of titanium components.
